Vidimsko praskalo eco-trail – the latest attraction of the Central Balkan National Park
The fans of the Stara Planina Mountain have already demonstrated their appreciation of the advantages of the latest tourist attraction offered by National Park Central Balkan – the Vidimsko praskalo eco-trail. The eco-trail is a cognitive route, which offers the visitors in the area of the town of Apriltsi the opportunity to enjoy aesthetic and spiritual enrichment from their contact with the nature of National Park Central Balkan and the Northern Djendem Reserve. The trace of the trail is parallel with the stream of the Praskalska River. The path passes through a century-old beech-tree wood and reaches the vertical rocky walls of the 80-m Vidimsko praskalo waterfall.
The route has been established by the Park Administration, through public assignments, financed by the Ministry of the environment and waters. The visitors will be provided with a handbook and lecture delivered by an interpreter, also with local mountain guides for the eco-trail, and special information signs, which present the park – animals, plants, woods, pastures, waters, water inhabitants, waterfalls, as well as the history of Apriltsi. A special “Green classroom” has been established too. Through a variety of games the children in the classroom will be given comprehensible information about the local flora and fauna species. There is also a promotional brochure in both the Bulgarian and German languages. For the easy access of the tourists the trail is well marked. There are five wooden bridges over the Praskalska River.
The eco-trail is a proof of consecutive management policy, directed to enrichment of the conditions for eco-tourism through development and maintenance of tourist infrastructure in a way that provides the tourists with useful information, convenience and safety during their stay in the Park.

Sini Vir Waterfall

Sini Vir is about an hour away walking distance west of the Kovatchevitza village in the valley of the Kanina river (also called Karvava reka, meaning bloody river). The falling water has formed blue-green colored coves. This waterfall is more of a cascade along the river which in this area has created a small and charming gorge. For 3 kilometers the river makes its way among unreachable vertical rocks hanging over it. There are a few caves around, and several pines have found a way to survive here on the rocks.
