Monastery of Batoshevo
The “Uspenie na Presveta Bogoroditsa” Monastery of Batoshevo lies 4 km to the southwest of the Batoshevo village and 20 km to the south of Sevlievo.
According to the discovered stone inscription it was founded in the 13th century under Tzar Mihael- Assen. The Turkish invaders burnt it to ashes, but in 1836 master Konstantin from Peshtera rebuilt it again with a beautiful stone church. The Revival master Stanislav Dospevski has painted the icons in it and the master from Tryavna, named Tzanio Zahariev – The old made the wood-carved iconostasis. One of the first monastery schools was opened here during the Revival period.
Bacho Kiro and Angel Kanchev sojourned in the monastery during the April Rebellion.
