250size35.jpgApriltzi is a small town with about 4,700 populations. It is located 25 km south-east of Troyan, 58 km west of Gabrovo, 206 km to the south of Sofia, 300 km west of Varna. Apriltzi unites four villages namely: Novo selo (New village), Zla reka, Vidima and Ostrets. The four villages were proclaimed city in 1976. The city is not an industrialized zone, a such it has perfect echo- friendly environment. The city is situated at the heart of the mountain called Stara planina (The Balkan), forming a magnificent valley with two rivers namely Vidima and Ostreshka.

The city has a strategic outlet to the following summits of Stara planina (The Balkans), namely: Kupenite, Maragidik, Roussalka, Urushka gramada, and Triglav. From the city, one can have easy access to the highest summit of Stara planina (The Balkan) called Botev, which are 2376 m high. Very close to the city is a reserve and from there is a nice view of rocks, variety of animals, and shrubs. At the area called “Rai” (Paradise), one can have a perfect view of the highest waterfall in Bulgaria called Raiskoto Praskalo – 124 m high. At the south of the city is located another waterfall called Vidimskoto Praskalo. In between this wonderful place are situated chalets and cabins.

The historical evidence and hills around this city is an evidence of ancient Thrace village. Close to the summit Ostrets were discovered remains from ancient temple. In the past, there was a road linking south and north Bulgaria through the mountain via this city. In the year 1876, there was a bloody revolution for national liberation in this city. The revolution took place in the month of April and in memory of the victims/ casualties of the revolution, thus, the city assumed its name Apriltsi.

There is a monastery located in the city and it’s called Novoselski and 20 km from the city is another monastery called Batoshevski.

Apriltsi is renowned for its attraction for recreation, hotels, hostel, etc.
